Guerra Freitas to Deliver the Keynote Address at the Evanston Volunteer Recognition Reception 2007 on April 19

Guerra Freitas, the President and Executive Director of SHAREcircle (SHARE), will deliver the keynote address at the Evanston Volunteer Recognition Reception 2007.

The Evanston Volunteer Recognition Reception 2007 will be held at the Northwestern University’s Norris University Center, Louis Room, located at 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston, Illinois, on April 19, 2007, at 6:00 PM. The Annual Evanston Volunteer Recognition Reception is jointly sponsored by Northwestern University, the Evanston Community Foundation, Evanston Township High School and the City of Evanston.

Guerra Freitas, a native Angolan and former Northwestern University staff member and graduate student founded SHARE in 1998. Since 1999, SHARE has sent hundreds of tons of goods including bicycles, sun ovens for families, seeds for farmers, wheelchairs for land mine victims and books/supplies for school children. Future SHARE projects in Angola include the establishment of a sun ovens assembly plant and the building of a university in Kuito, the capital of Bié province of Angola.

Thank you for Making our Bikes Drive a Huge Success!

Bikes FlyerWe, at SHARE, would like to thank our donors, supporters, Working Bikes, which is our partner in the bikes project, volunteers and the Board of Directors for all their contributions, which made our bikes drive a huge success last Sunday, April 15. We collected 220 bikes and counting! We were hoping to collect 100 bikes, which is the maximum other organizations have collected in single bikes drive. Our bikes drive was so successful to the point that Working Bikes, our partner, is calling it a “historic” bikes drive.

This was all possible because of your personal commitment, generosity and kindness.

As a bonus to the bikes drive, we baked cookies using a sun oven and both volunteers and donors enjoyed eating our sun oven baked cookies. It was quite a party!

Thank you for sacrificing your time and resources to make sure that we have a successful bikes drive. Our special thanks also go to Wild Oats

I would like to borrow Dr. Deer’s expression to say to all of you who were physically at the bikes drive and to others who were with us in thought, “May what you share come back to you in the way you need!”

Dr. Patricia Deer is the Chairperson of the SHARE Board of Directors.

WAIT, THERE IS ONE MORE WAY YOU CAN HELP US. . . .

If you could not make it to the bikes drive, but know somebody could potentially donate a bicycle, please download the event flyer here and pass it along. We are still collecting bicycles!

ANGOLA: A FABULOUS COUNTRY CD

In 2000 Guerra Freitas invited an exciting group of musicians from different parts of the world, living in Chicago, to help him record the "CD Angola: Um Pais Fabuloso No Mundo," or Angola: A Fabulous Country in English, with songs he has written. The project turned up to be a huge success!
